In late 2014, Insight Explorer purchased a total of 141
cans of solvent-based, enamel decorative paints representing 47 brands from
stores in eight cities in China (Beijing, Shenyang, Zhengzhou, Nanchang,
Guangzhou, Xiamen, Shanghai and Kunming). Samples from these paints were
analyzed by an accredited laboratory in Italy for total lead content.

The paint study was undertaken as part of the Asian Lead
Paint Elimination Project (2012 – 2015), funded by the European Union with 1.4
